15 Hizb ut-Tahrir members held in Chattogram

Police in Chattogram detained 15 members of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir, including its Chattogram regional chief, on Friday.

The detainees are Chattogram regional chief and teacher of a private English medium school Ershad, Nazmul, Lokman, Mahfuz, Imtiaz, Karim, Abdullah Monayem, Kamrul Hasan, Ajim Uddin, Ariful Islam, Rafi, Ajimul Huda, Nasir, Mostafa Akbar Chowdhury and Alauddin.   

They were detained during a drive of Chattogram Metropolitan Police led by its additional deputy commissioner (south zone) Shah Md Abdur Rouf.

"Of the 15 people, 13 were detained from a house in Chandgao residential area while they were having a meeting and the two others were held from a house under Bayezid Police Station area," he said.

"During the drive, police seized laptops, mobile phones, leaflets and extremist books from their possession," he added.
