13-year-old madrasa student raped in Faridpur, 3 arrested

A 13-year-old madrasa girl was allegedly gang-raped by the supervisor and the helper of a bus bound for Faridpur from Dhaka in Bhanga on Sunday (30 July).

"Police have arrested a woman along with the bus conductor and helper in connection with the kidnapping and rape of the 13-year-old Madrasa student. Later, the girl's father, Kalam Sheikh filed a case at Bhanga police station on Monday (31 July)," SI Jewel, duty officer of Bhanga police station told The Business Standard. 

The girl has been admitted to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital for physical examination and treatment, he added. 

Those arrested in this incident are the conductor Asif Sardar, 22, helper Rakib Matubbar, 24 and his mother Lily Begum, 50.

The victim's brother-in-law Suman Ahmed said his sister-in-law is a student at Hazaribagh Khadijatul Kobra madrasa in Dhaka. She lives with them in a rented house in Hazaribagh.

"Last Sunday (July 30) afternoon, I took her to a bus (Dhaka Metro B-6483) from Babubazar to go to Pirergram in Nagarkanda, my in-laws. her father-in-law Kalam Sheikh was waiting for her in Bhanga," he added. 

Victim's father, Kalam Sheikh said, "When I called my daughter's mobile phone, it was also switched off. The police were informed." 

According to the case statement, the accused bus supervisor and helper took the girl to Rakib's home and raped her in turns.

Jiarul Islam, OC of Bhanga police station, said that they are investigating the incident. 

"If there are others involved in the incident action will also be taken against them," he added.
