Zaima’s family to be compensated 50 lakhs by launch owner for toe accident

Zaima lost toe nail after launch collided against her at Fatullah Launch Terminal

The High Court has issued a ruling asking why the family of 8-year-old Zaima Nawaz, whose toenail was peeled off after a launch collided against her, should not be paid 50 lakhs for her treatment and recovery.

Additionally, the court has ruled that the accused should pay Zaima's family three lakh taka within 15 days for treatment.  

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayatur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman gave the order in response to a writ petition filed by Ain O Salish Kendra and the child's father.

Barrister Anisul Hasan and Barrister Shahinuzzaman Shahin represented the plaintiff, and Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy represented the state.

The accused in the writ included officials from the ministry of shipping, the chairman of BIWTA, the chairman of BITWTC, Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, District Administrator of Narayanganj, owner of the launch Mamunur Rashid, Master Abdur Rouf, Master Nasir Uddin Gazi, Driver Md. Shopon, Driver Md. Faruk Hossain and Manager Moniruzzaman.   

On December 29, 2017 six-year-old Zaima Nawaz Jisa, while travelling with her father Jamal Gazi, mother Nazmun Nahar and brother khaja Groib Nawaz, got her right foot stuck after MV Yard pushed against her at Fatullah Launch terminal, resulting in her toenail breaking-off.
