Writ petition seeks orders to name Padma Bridge after PM

A writ petition was filed with the High Court, seeking a directive upon the government to name the Padma Multipurpose Bridge after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Kamruzzaman filed the petition on Wednesday.

The cabinet secretary, the road, transport and bridge's division secretary, the chief engineer of road and highways division and the director of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project were made respondents.

The petition would be moved for hearing next week before the HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam, the petitioner said.

Kamruzzaman told reporters, "We were frustrated over the implementation of the project when foreign funding was withdrawn raising corruption allegations."

Now since the bridge is coming into reality because the PM decided to go ahead with the project with Bangladesh's own funds, she should get the recognition, he added.
