Two to die for killing teenage girl in Khulna
The court fined Tk1 lakh each of the convicts
A Khulna court yesterday sentenced two persons to death for killing a teenage girl 10 years ago.
The court also fined each of the convicts, Babul Hawlader and Emdad Hossain from Bastuhara colony in Khulna city, Tk1 lakh each.
After going through the witnesses and case documents, Mohammad Mohiduzzaman, Judge at the Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3, pronounced the verdict.
According to the case statement, Afsana Mimi (14), a resident of Bastuhara colony, went out to buy puffed-rice in the evening of November 15, 2009, and did not return home. After a hectic search for his daughter through the night, Mimi's father filed a general diary at the Khalishpur Police Station. Next day, a caretaker of a local madrasa informed Mimi's father that he found the girl's body in a swamp.
Subsequently, victim's father filed a case, accusing unknown persons for killing her daughter; nevertheless, in the case statement, he mentioned that Babul, Quader and Emdad of the locality used to harass her daughter.
Abu Mokaddesh Ali, the investigating officer who is in-charge of the case, submitted a charge-sheet on March 23, 2010, accusing six people; afterwards, four of them were acquitted.
