Trial against Shahed begins in arms case

A Dhaka court has framed charge against Regent Hospital owner Shahed Karim, alias Md Shahed, on Thursday in a case filed under the Arms Act.

Dhaka Special Tribunal-1 Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order to begin the trial following a hearing. Shahed was produced before the court from jail during this hearing. The court has also fixed September 10 for hearing of testimony.

Regent Group Chairman Shahed put on 38-day fresh remand

On August 19, Judge KM Imrul Kayes accepted the charge sheet in the case. At the same time, he fixed August 27 for the formation of charge in the case.

Regent Group Chairman Shahed was previously put on a 38-day fresh remand in different cases.

On July 15, a team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shahed from Debhata upazila in Satkhira. After his arrest, at least 20 cases have been filed against him with different police stations in the capital.

Most of these cases have been filed in connection with his fraudulent activities.

On June 6, RAB raided the Uttara and Mirpur branches of the Regent Hospital on complaints of faking Covid-19 test and embezzlement of money.

Police also raided one of his offices in Uttara on July 18. Shahed was with the police team during the raid. Then, police seized a loaded pistol and illegal drugs from a car that was used by Shahed.
