Risha’s murderer gets death sentence

A Dhaka court has given death sentence to Obaidul Khan, the murderer of Risha – a student of Dhaka's Willes Little Flower School and College.
He has also been fined Tk50 thousand in the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes.
Public Prosecutor Tapos Paul on Thursday confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Students of Willes Little Flower School and College, who took position on court premises from the morning in a demand of capital punishment to Obaidul, are now celebrating the verdict.
Risha was stabbed to death by Obaidul Khan, a tailor, in front of the school on August 24, 2016. The eighth-grader succumbed to her injuries in hospital four days later.
In the days leading up to the killing, Obaidul had been stalking Risha. Right after committing the murder, he fled Dhaka. Later, police arrested him on August 31, 2016 from Nilphamari.
Obaidul confessed to his crimes during primary interrogation in the police custody.
