Court jails 2 for killing elephant

For the first time in the country, a Chattogram court has ordered two accused to jail for killing an elephant.

On Tuesday, Chattogram's Banshkhali Court Judge Md Maidul Islam sent Kamal and his son Nezam to jail for killing an elephant in Sadhanpur union.

Earlier on 30 November, the two accused allegedly electrocuted the elephant in Lotmoni in Banshkhali upazila and buried it. 

Following the incident, the forest department filed a case against them, confirmed Chattogram Divisional Officer South Shafiqul Islam.

In the last one month, five elephants have died in Satkania, Chakaria, Eidgah and Banshkhali due to various reasons. In Banshkhali alone, two elephants died in 19 days.

Earlier on 12 November, the forest department recovered the body of another elephant from the Chhota Beel area of East Chambal Ward-7 of the upazila.
