Police get 10 days to interrogate GK Shamim

A Dhaka court today placed Jubo League leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim on 10-day remand in two cases.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter granted the remand when police produced him before the court with 14-day plea for interrogation.

Shamim's seven bodyguards were placed on 4-day remand in Arms Act. 

General Recording Officer of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court (CMM) court and Sub-Inspector Md Rakibul Hasan confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested him on Friday and uncovered Tk1.80 crore from his house and Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth Tk165 crore from his office in Niketan in the capital.

Earlier on today RAB filed three cases against Jubo League leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim with the Gulshan police station.

Two cases were filed against GK Shamim under Narcotic Control and Money Laundering acts while another one was filed against Shamim and his seven bodyguards on charge of creating fear among people by brandishing firearms.

Earlier in the day, RAB handed him over to the police. 

GK Shamim is known to be an influential contractor of the Public Works Department and other government organisations.
