Out of 5 lakh vehicles, only 89,269 have renewed their fitness certificates.

The High Court has ordered petrol pumps and CNG refuelling stations not to refuel vehicles without verifying their renewed fitness licences.

Justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and KM Hafizul Alam passed the order today when the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) submitted a report on unfit vehicles and licence renewal.

According to the BRTA report, out of 5 lakh vehicles, only 89,269 have renewed their fitness certificates since the High Court on July 24 gave two months' time until September 30 for the renewal.

The court also asked the BRTA chairman and the director of the Road Safety Department to submit reports on what actions were taken against the 4.79 lakh unfit vehicles and drivers without licences.
