High Court upholds ex-state minister Mir Nasir, his son’s jail terms in graft case

The ACC filed the case against Mir Nasiruddin and his son on March 6, 2007 on corruption charge

The High Court on Tuesday upheld a lower court verdict that sentenced former state minister Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to 13 years in prison and his son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin to three years in jail in a case filed for amassing wealth through illegal means.

The High Court bench of Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Fatema Nazib pronounced the judgment rejecting the petitions filed by the accused challenging the lower court verdict.

The ACC filed the case against former state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Nasiruddin and his son Mir Helaluddin with Gulshan Police Station on March 6, 2007 on corruption charges.

Special Judge Court of Dhaka sentenced Nasir to 13 years and his son Helal to three years imprisonment on July 4, 2007.

The High Court delivered the verdict on completion of hearing on the appeals filed by the former state minster and his son challenging the lower court verdict on them.
