High Court seeks new list of health check-up costs at private hospitals

The High Court has asked relevant government authorities to provide it with the latest list of health check-up costs at all private clinics, hospitals, laboratories and diagnostic centres in the country.

The court has also ordered authorities concerned to inform it about the update regarding the finalisation of the draft policy as per the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982 by September 9.

A High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Khairul Alam passed the order on Tuesday.

The court issued the orders based on a writ petition filed by Shah Alam, treasurer of Human Rights Lawyers and Securing Environment Society of Bangladesh.

Supreme Court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed stood for the writ in the court.

Following the hearing, lawyer Bashir Ahmed spoke to media, confirming the High Court orders.

On July 24, 2018, the High Court had directed all private clinics, hospitals, laboratories and diagnostic centres of the country to publicly display the price list of health examinations in accordance with the law.

The court had asked the health secretary, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council to implement the order.
