The former BNP foreign minister allegedly laundered 39.5 million US dollars and 13.6 million Hong Kong dollars to Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered Bank.

The High Court on Monday upheld a Dhaka court order that allowed the government to confiscate the Hong Kong bank accounts and shares of former BNP foreign minister M Morshed Khan and his son Faisal Morshed Khan.

A High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan and AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order.

Senior advocate Ajmalul Hossain QC and Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh stood for Morshed Khan in the court while Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On September 19, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court gave an order to confiscate Morshed Khan and his son's bank accounts and 17 lakh shares in Hong Kong. The Attorney General and the ACC applied for the confiscation.

The former BNP foreign minister allegedly laundered 39.5 million US dollars and 13.6 million Hong Kong dollars to Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered Bank.

However, although a case was filed in 2013 in this regard, the investigation could not be completed due to various legal complications.

Earlier in September this year, the Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered Bank reported that they could not keep Tk16 crore and nearly 17 lakh shares of Morshed Khan and his son Faisal Morshed after October 15.
