HC orders DoE to run mobile courts to contain pollution

The High Court ordered the government to appoint five executive magistrates under the Department of Environment to operate mobile courts to stop environmental pollution.
The Court also asked Directorate General of DoE AKM Rafique Ahammed to implement the order within one month.
A High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader passed the order today.
Deputy attorney general ABM Abdullah- Al-Mahmud Bashar confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The High Court expressed concern that the Department of Environment(DoE) is negligent in conducting programmes to prevent environmental pollution.
DoE Directorate General appeared before the court today after the High Court summoned him on January 13 to explain Dhaka's air quality and the strength of the manpower of the office.
Advocate Manzill Morshed appeared for the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar represented the state.
On April 2019, a writ petition was filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) seeking necessary order on the authorities concerned to curb air pollution in Dhaka.
