The High Court (HC) has issued a ruling asking why the digitalisation of marriage and divorce registration should not be directed to protect family honour after being a victim of fraud.

The HC Vacation Bench of Justice Md Mujibur Rahman and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah on Tuesday passed the ruling in the wake of a writ petition.

Three people – Rakib Hasan, the ex-husband of Tamima, as well as Sohag Hossain and Kamrul Hasan – and the Aid for Men Foundation filed the writ petition on 4 March.

The law secretary, information and technology secretary, religion secretary, and BTRC chairman have been asked to respond to the ruling within four weeks.

On 22 February, Advocate Ishrat Hasan, on behalf of the three people and the Aid for Men Foundation, issued a legal notice seeking instructions to digitise marriage and divorce registration.

Advocate Ishrat Hasan appeared for the writ petition while Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Md Russell Chowdhury appeared for the state.
