HC adjourns Khaleda’s bail hearing

The High Court adjourned a hearing on a bail petition moved by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case till Wednesday

The High Court on Tuesday adjourned a hearing on a bail petition moved by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case till Wednesday.

A division bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman also said it will pass an order on Wednesday after hearing a statement of Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

On Sunday, the BNP chief filed the petition saying she has been suffering from different diseases and already served one and half years in jail in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

Therefore, Khaleda in the petition said she deserves bail.  

On October 29 last year, a Dhaka court convicted and sentenced Khaleda to seven years’ imprisonment in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The BNP chairperson has been hospitalised at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University since April 1 for various illness.
