Finish graft trial against Nur Hossain in 6 months: HC

The High Court (HC) ordered the lower court to finish the trial of the corruption case against Nur Hossain, a death row convict of Narayanganj 7-murder case, within the next six months.
The HC bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam came up with the order on Wednesday, following a review petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against the lower court order.
During the hearing, Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Helena Begum China represented the state while lawyer Shafiqul Islam appeared in favour of the ACC at the court.
Earlier on April 23, 2015, the ACC filed a revision petition with the HC challenging the exemption order by the lower court.
The HC on June 28, 2015, issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why the exemption order of the lower court could not be scrapped.
The ACC submitted the charge sheet to the lower court on July 19, 2011 but a special court in Narayanganj exonerated Nur Hossain from the case on January 30, 2013, declaring the case was filed late.
The ACC filed the case with Narayanganj Police Station against Nur Hossain on November 28, 2002 in connection with misappropriating Tk5 lakh of the land development tax.
Nur Hossain was the then chairman of Naraynganj's Siddhirganj union parishad in 1997.
