The Detective Branch (DB) of police have started quizzing Amatullah Bushra, the friend of the slain Buet student Fardin Noor Parash, after securing a five-day remand for her in the murder case.

Bushra, an East West University student, is the prime accused in the case.

The hunt is on to nab others involved by scanning footage of different CCTV cameras installed across the capital, said Harun-or-Rashid, chief of Detective Branch, at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre in Minto Road, Dhaka.

The police are investigating whether the family or social issues played a role in the murder. At least, two teams are currently working on the case, he said.

Fardin went missing on 4 November prompting his father Nuruddin Rana to file a general diary with the Rampura Police Station the next day. Later, Fardin's corpse was found on 7 November in the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj.

Nuruddin Rana filed a case on 10 November accusing Bushra and several other unnamed people for the killing.

The court has appointed the Detective Branch to investigate the case and ordered that a report be submitted on 12 December.

According to sources, Fardin and Bushra were in a love affair for four years. Police have found footage showing Fardin approaching Bushra's mess in the capital's Banasree area on 4 November. But, no footage has been found so far showing his departure from that area, convincing police to name Bushra as the prime accused in the first information report (FIR).

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that Fardin's death is a result of murder and police are treating it as such.
