DIG Rashid sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of prisons Md Bazlur Rashid to jail in a graft case.

Acting Judge Al Mamun Bhuiyan of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order on Sunday.

Investigation officer and Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Director Md Nasir Uddin produced Rashid at court and pleaded for him to be kept behind bars until the disposal of the case.

Rashid's counsel pleaded for bail, but after hearing both sides, the court sent him to jail.

The DIG was shown arrested this afternoon from the ACC headquarters in the capital's Segunbagicha area in a case over amassing Tk3.08 crore wealth illegally.

Earlier in the morning, DIG Prisons Md Bazlur Rashid and his wife Razzakun Nahar appeared before the anti-graft body to be interrogated about their wealth.

During the interrogation, the DIG couldn't explain how he acquired the money.
