Declare March 7 as Historic National Day: High Court

The High Court today ordered the authorities concerned to publish a gazette declaring March 7 of 1971 as a Historic National Day.
A High Court bench comprising of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahsan and K M Kamrul Kader ordered to place Bangabandhu's statues in important places of all districts and upazillas across the country.
The court further instructed the secretary of the Cabinet, secretary of the ministry of culture and others concerned to submit a progress report on the implementation of the court's order within a month.
The court also issued a rule asking why the historical events of the day should not be included in the textbooks.
Lawyer Dr Basir Ahmed, who submitted the petition, represented in favour of the writ while Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Abdul Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.
On November 20, 2017, the High Court issued a rule asking why the stage of March 7 speech of Bangabandhu in Suhrawardy Udyan should not be rebuilt and why March 7, 1971, should not be declared a Historic National Day.
On February 5 this year, the court wanted to know what the government is planning to do in Suhrawardy Udyan area to commemorate the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu.
