Death of college students in road crash: Verdict against Jabal-e-Noor owners, staff Dec 1

A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed December 1 for delivering the verdict in a case filed over the death of two college students in a road crash in Airport Road area in the capital last year.

Judge KM Imrul Kayes of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court set the date on completion of the arguments in the case.

Detective Branch of Police submitted a charge-sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Dhaka against six persons on September 6. 

The accused are owners of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan Jahangir Alam and Shahadat Hossain, drivers Masum Billah and Zobair Sumon and helpers Enayet Hossain and Kazi Asad.

Later, the court framed charges against four accused on October 25 last year.

Of the six accused, four are now behind the bars while Kazi Asad and Jahangir Alam are on the run.

Among the accused, driver Masum Billah and bus owner Shahadat Hossain gave confessional statements before the court under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

On July 29, Dia Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, were killed when a Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed through a crowd while competing with another bus of the same company in front of the Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road.

Dia's father Jahangir Alam filed a case with Cantonment Police Station.
