Contempt of court rule issued against Wasa managing director

The High Court has issued a contempt of court rule against Dhaka Wasa Managing Director Taqsem A Khan for not implementing the court order to stop pollution in the Buriganga River.
The court also accused him of interrupting regular court activities by providing false information.
The High Court bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah, on Thursday, asked why disciplinary actions should not be taken against Taqsem. He has got two weeks to answer the rule.
"I filed a writ in 2010 to stop water pollution in the Buriganga River. The court, in 2011 ordered to stop the industrial discharge lines in the Buriganga River within six months," said lawyer Monjil Morshed, who is also the petitioner.
"Wasa later claimed that they don't have any line in the Buriganga."
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority in a report said that there are 68 lines in Buriganga. Among which, 58 belongs to Wasa.
"Wasa also showed images of their regular activities around Siddeshwari, Mohammadpur and Kolabagan and said it was working on stopping pollution in the Buriganga," Monjil said.
