A Dhaka court has fixed October 7 for the charge framing hearing against four people in the sensational Sagira Morshed murder case. The murder occurred 30 years ago in the capital.

The case was scheduled for a hearing on Monday. The lawyers of the accused applied for time. They were not ready as they did not have the required documents.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh granted the application and fixed a new date.

Earlier on March 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh accepted the chargesheet filed by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

On January 16, PBI inspector Rafiqul Islam, the investigating officer in the case, filed a 1,309-page chargesheet against four people, including Sagira's brother-in-law, at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

The accused in the case are- Sagira Morshed's brother-in-law Dr Hasan Ali Chowdhury, his wife Sayedatul Mahmuda (alias Shaheen), Hasan Ali's brother-in-law Anas Mahmud (alias Rezwan) and a professional killer Maruf Reza.

According to the case statement, Sagira Morshed went to pick up her daughter on 25 July, 1989 from Viqarunnisa Noon School in the capital's Bailey Road.

She, however, failed to reach her daughter's school as muggers tried to take her gold bangles from her. They also shot her as she was trying to escape. Later, she died on the way to hospital.

Later the same day, the victim's husband Abdus Salam Chowdhury filed a murder case against unidentified people at the Ramna Police Station.
