Abrar murder: Amit, Toha put on 5-day remand

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sharifuzzaman Ansari granted the remand plea

A Dhaka court placed Amit Saha and Hossain Md Toha on a 5-day remand today in connection with the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sharifuzzaman Ansari granted the remand plea after police produced the duo before the court with a 10-day remand plea, confirmed General Recording Officer Sub-Inspector Mazharul Islam.

On early hours of Monday, Abrar, 22, a second-year-student of electrical and electronics engineering department was beaten to death allegedly by Chhatra League leaders in his dormitory Sher-E-Bangla Hall.

A total of 10 Buet unit Chhatra League leaders were detained after Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a case with Chawkbazar police station the same night. All of them were placed on a 5-day remand on Tuesday. 

Later on Thursday, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Amit, a third-year student of Civil Engineering Department, from Sabujbag area in the capital. 

In another raid on the same day, the Detective Branch arrested Hossain Mohammad Toha from the Mawna area of Gazipur in connection with the murder.
