8 gold bars recovered from passenger’s stomach at Ctg airport

Members of National Security Intelligence (NSI) recovered eight gold bars worth Tk50 lakh from a passenger's stomach at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport.

The detainee - Mohammad Morshed, resident of Raozan upazila of the district, arrived at Chattogram airport from Sharjah, a city in the United Arab Emirates, on Monday night with the gold bars, according to airport sources.

After landing at the airport, the NSI challenged Morshed that he was carrying gold bars.

Though Morshed denied it first, he later admitted having gold bars while law enforcers threatened to do a stomach x-ray.   

Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House Md Riyadul Islam said the NSI members also recovered gold jewellry weighing 100 grams from Morshed.

Preparations are underway to file a case against the arrested passenger as per customs law, Riyadul added.
