The council was supposed to be held on September 14

A Dhaka court on Thursday issued a suspension order on the sixth council of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP.

The council was supposed to be held on September 14.

Nusrat Jahan Bithi, 4th assistant judge of Dhaka district and sessions judge court, passed the order.

The court also served a show-cause notice to ten BNP leaders including its General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in this regard. They were asked to reply to the court within seven working days.

Earlier on the day, Aman Ullah, immediate former religious affairs secretary of JCD, filed a petition before the court seeking a stay order on the JCD council.

When contacted, Assistant Organising Secretary of BNP Shohidul Islam Babul said the stay order is unfortunate as all the leaders and activists throughout the country are quite excited and eagerly waiting for new leadership through the council.

"We hope we will be able to form the council in time through a legal battle," he added.

Earlier, on October 14, 2014, the last JCD committee was formed electing Rajib Ahsan its president and Akramul Hasan its general secretary.
