The lowest temperature in the country – 8.4 degrees Celsius – was recorded in Chuadanga this morning as a mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over the western district.
According to the Meteorological office of Chuadanga, wind was blowing at seven kilometres per hour. Temperature was recorded 8.4 degrees Celsius at 9am.
Cold was intensifying as the sky was not foggy.
Chhamadul Islam, a meteorological officer in Chuadanga, said it was getting chilly due to the cold wave.
He said the cold wave would continue to sweep through the district for several days and temperature might fall.
Extreme winter due to chilly northern gusts has engulfed public life. The rootless and the working-class people are suffering the most due to the cold wave.
The lowest temperature in the country this year was recorded at 7.9 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga Thursday (December 19) morning.
Chuadanga streets are mostly empty. The local people have huddled up inside their homes as the chilly northern wind has been blowing all day long.
Deputy Commissioner of Chuadanga Nazrul Islam Sarkar said on Thursday, "The district administration has about 20,000 blankets in stock and we have already started distributing those among the poor and low-income people."
