Three including two UP members sued over rice ‘embezzlement’

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against two Union Parishad (UP) members in Sherpur on Thursday for embezzling government rice of social safety net.

ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

He said, the anti-graft body sued Sultan, a UP member of Nakla Upazila and another Abu Bakkor of the same area.

Atiqul Alam, assistant director of ACC Tangail office, filed the case alleging embezzlement of 300 kg rice which were meant for the vulnerable group feeding (VGF).

He also filed a separate case against Minara Begum, a member of Malizikandi of Jhinaigati upazilla in Sherpur.

She was sued due to misappropriating relief items of the government.
