ACC summons 12 DGHS employees for interrogation

A notice signed by Md Shamsul Alam, deputy director of ACC on Thursday has asked them to appear before the anti-graft watchdog at its head office on the 13th, 14th and 15th of October.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned 12 more officials of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for interrogation over alleged involvement in the accumulation of illegal wealth.

A notice signed by Md Shamsul Alam, deputy director of ACC on Thursday asked them to appear before the anti-graft watchdog at its head office on the 13th, 14th and 15th of October.

Among them Md Ruhul Amin, an assistant programmer (MIS); Jahangir Hossain Hawlader, head assistant and two PAs Shahjahan Fakir and Abu Sohel have been asked to appear before the ACC on 13 October.

Moreover, Anwar Hossain, assistant (Community clinic wing); Md Hanif, office assistant; and two upper division assistants Md Shahnewaz and Shariful Islam have been summoned to appear on 14 October.

Also, three other office assistants Masud Karim, Alauddin, Iqbal Hossain, and storekeeper Shafayet Hossain Foyez have been asked to appear before the ACC on 15 October.   

The anti-graft body is investigating the 'illegal assets' of at least 75 DGHS employees. So far, 12 cases have been filed under the investigation. Last month, ACC issued asset submission notices on 20 people including 12 DGHS employees and their family members.

Regarding the issue, ACC secretary Dilawar Bakht said, "In 2019 we started enquiring about illegal assets of DGHS employees. We are relentlessly working on it and filing cases whenever we get evidence."
