ACC to probe assets of PWD’s chief engineer

The anti-graft watchdog is investigating several allegations of corruption against him

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to hold another enquiry against Md Ashraful Alam, chief engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).

The anti-graft body has already appointed M Saiduzzaman as the enquiry officer, sources at the ACC confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

Earlier in August last year, the ACC opened a probe into the assets of Ashraful and his wife Sabina Alam.

The ACC is investigating several allegations of corruption against him.

On January 9 this year, ACC Director Kazi Shafiqul Alam served a notice on Ashraful and his wife asking them to file statements of their wealth within the next 21 working days.

ACC Assistant Director Meftahul Jannat filed an interim report against Ashraful at that time. To continue that probe, the anti-graft body appointed the new officer for the enquiry.

On December 31 last year,Md Ashraful Alam was appointed as chief engineer of PWD.

Ashraful Alam could not be reached for comment regarding the matter as he did not receive calls.
