Police on Friday arrested three people, including an Open Market Sale (OMS) dealer, for illegally selling rice at Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram.

The arrestees are Sarwar Jahan Babul, OMS dealer of Azadi Bazar under Dharmapur union, his partner Khokon, and rickshaw puller Kabir Ahmed.

Dharmapur Union Parishad Chairman MA Kaiyum said they went to Azadi Bazar area after learning that Babul was illegally selling four sacks of OMS rice, weighing about 30kg, to the rickshaw puller.

"Then we informed the matter to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and officer in-charge of the local police station. Police arrested the trio and the local administration sealed off the warehouse," he added.

Fatikchhari UNO Md Sayedul Arefin said selling of OMS rice is currently closed.

But Babul sold four sacks of rice from the warehouse, he said, adding a case would be filed with Fatikchhari police station in this regard.
