Coronavirus outbreak could become worse by April : Dhaka South Mayor
Allowing foreign returnees to move freely was a fatal mistake, Mayor Sayeed Khokon said on Sunday
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon has said that the coronavirus outbreak may get even worse by the beginning of April.
He said this on Sunday at an emergency meeting of the newly formed committee to prevent coronavirus from spreading in the city corporation area, according to a press release.
"Giving the foreign returnees a chance to move about freely was a fatal mistake. Death tolls could massively increase because of this."
To prevent the coronavirus from spreading in Dhaka South, a stronger committee needs to be formed by reviewing the existing committee, Sayeed recommended.
"Intelligence agencies can play an effective role by keeping the people infected with Covid-19 under surveillance to stop further spreading of this virus."
He opined that hospital directors need to arrange a meeting with other government office representatives so that the general patients could get the required medical care and coronavirus infected patients could be properly monitored.
Among others, Dhaka South Chief Executive Officer Shah MD Imdadul Haque, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Sharif Ahmed, the deputy civil surgeon of Dhaka, representatives of the Dhaka district administration, and representatives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, also attended the meeting.
