Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the construction of Padma Bridge might be delayed if the coronavirus situation does not improve and the Chinese engineers do not return to work within the next two months.

"Out of 980 Chinese employees, around 300 are on leave currently due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak," the minister said in a press briefing at his office on Wednesday.

He also said that 77 percent construction of the bridge has been completed. The 24th span will be installed on February 10.

Wuhan, the capital of China's Hubei province, is at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak. The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China passed 490 on Wednesday.
