A sub-inspector of police reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his rented house in the district town on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Selim Jahangir, 38, son of Abul Kalam Azad of Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur district. He was posted at Sadar police camp.

Mahibul Islam Khan, superintendent of police of the district, said Jahangir shot himself on the head in front of his wife and parents at their Hatirpar residence around 3pm.

He was taken to Kurigram General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.

Dr Shahinur Rahman at the hospital said Jahangir was brought to the hospital dead. A bullet pierced through near his right ear, he said.

Necessary legal action will be taken after investigation, the SP said.
