The construction works of the much-awaited Teesta Bridge over the Teesta River is going on in full swing.
Office sources said Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is constructing the girder bridge at a cost of Taka 367 crore which was provided by the government of Bangladesh and Saudi Fund for Development of KSA jointly.
Earlier, the feasibility study to construct the bridge over the river was done by the experts' team of Water and Flood Management Institute of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) led by Professor Sajib Kumar Bala and Prof Dr. Tariqul Islam in 2010 and 2011, office sources said.
Executive engineer of LGED said the 1490-metre long bridge would be constructed over the Teesta River between Horipurghat of Sundarganj upazila under Gaibandha district and Chilmari Kheyaghat point of Chilmari upazila under Kurigram district at the direct supervision of the LGED.
Meanwhile, 68.34 hectares of land at Gaibandha point and 22.50 hectares of land at Kurigram point had already been acquired for making the connecting roads at both sides of the bridge, sources added.

Talking to the BSS, Executive Engineer of the LGED Ahsan Kabir said the PC girder bridge would have 30 pillars and the piling work of the pillars has been progressing fast.
