A college girl was reportedly gang-raped by five youths at Mirzapur of Gopalpur upazila in Tangail district on Monday night.

Traumatised and injured, she is currently undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.

The victim identified the youths as Sayful, Enamul, Khaled, Jalal and Alataf, all hailing from neighbouring Kaguji Ata village.

The girl said that on her way home from a local market at Natur Char area last evening, the five accosted her near a bridge of the area.

As she protested, they gagged her and forcefully took her to a boat, after which they headed for an abandoned house in the Char.

The five took turns to rape her all night and left her on the riverbank at dawn.

The girl returned home and told her parents about her ordeal, who later took her to the hospital.

Kamruzzaman, a duty doctor at the hospital, said the girl has several injury marks on different parts of her body.

Confirming the news, Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in Charge Mosharrar Hossain said they are looking into the incident.
