Collective efforts continue to reduce border killings to zero: BGB director general

The BGB director general distributed boats among 25 boatmen in Rajshahi on Tuesday

Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Md Shafeenul Islam said collective efforts are being made to bring the border killings down to zero.

He said, "That is why discussion with the other party takes place all the time. Political personalities have to come forward. The people of the border areas need to be made aware and motivated."

The BGB director general said this to reporters after distributing boats among 25 boatmen of Padma in Srirampur T-Dam area in Rajshahi metropolis on Tuesday afternoon.

The BGB distributed these boats among the fishermen of Padma in celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation with one hundred boats.

The BGB director general and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed symbolic keys of boats among the boatmen.

At the event, the BGB director general said the foreign ministries of the two countries are working to provide corridors to the people who have to go through Indian areas to enter into Bangladeshi areas again.

He also advised people living near borders to be more aware to stop smuggling.

He further said the number of women members in BGB will be increased in future.
