CMP along with KSRM lend a hand to 3,000 families

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (South Zone) in collaboration with the country's leading steel manufacturer KSRM has initiated a relief distribution programme among 3,000 families in Chattogram in response to the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman inaugurated the initiative on Monday at a community centre at the port city.

Asking people to follow the government directives to curb coronavirus infection, Mahbubur Rahman said we can save ourselves from probable danger simply by staying at home during the general holidays declared by the government.

He also thanked KSRM Group for its praiseworthy initiative and urged other wealthy people to lend a hand to the poor, helpless, jobless and destitute people during this disaster.

"We could call you together and distribute relief among you, but considering the importance of maintaining a physical distance, our teams are taking these items to your doorsteps. Stay at home. Stay safe and keep the country safe," Mahbubur said.

Regarding the mobile market run by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, he said the hotline is open 24/7. Besides, the police also have a hotline (0140400400). Whenever we get a call on the hotline, we take the patient to hospital in the vehicle used by the officer-in-charge.

Under the initiative, each family that needs food during the lockdown will get 19 food and daily necessity items in phases including 10 kg of rice, three kg of potatoes, two kg of lentils, one and a half kg of onions, half a kg of salt, one litre of edible oil, and a bar of soap.

Earlier, after the general holiday was announced, KSRM provided 2300 families with Tk1,000 each through mobile banking service Nagad. They had also helped the families open a Nagad account and prepared a database.

"We are used to donating without any publicity. As soon as the police told us about relief we arranged it. In this lockdown, KSRM is proud to lend a hand to suddenly-jobless people," said KSRM Media Adviser Mizanul Islam.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and operation) Shyamol Kumar Nath, Deputy Police Commissioner (South) SM Mehedi Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shah MdAbdurRouf, officers-in-charge of the police stations of the four zones and other higher officials of the Bangladesh Police were present at the inauguration of the relief distribution programme.
