Can this innocent mind understand that an unexpected train crash took away her mother?

Lying on a bed of Brahmanbaria hospital, a two-and-a-half-year-old child with head injury was crying for her mother.

The toddler must have been wondering where her mother had gone.

Can this innocent mind understand that an unexpected train crash took away her mother?

None of her relatives could be identified when she was taken to the hospital.

Later, she was identified as Mahima who was returning home on Udayan Express with her mother Kakoli in Himechar upazila of Chandpur. But she lost her mother as the Dhaka-bound Turna Nishta crashed into the train at Mandabhag Railway Station on Dhaka-Sylhet route.

Mahima's father Mayeen Uddin, a hotel bearer, said her wife along with some other relatives went to Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif in Sylhet. They were returning home by boarding the Udayan Express.

Mahima needed stitches on her forehead injury. Bandage has been given on her head stretching from the left side of her forehead to the backside of her head, said Dr Shawkat Hossain, caretaker in the hospital.

At least 16 people were killed and dozens injured as the two intercity trains - Udayan Express and Turna Nishita – collided in Brahmanbaria's Kasba at around 3am on Tuesday.
