Chattogram journo sued for using ‘abusive language’ against local MP

Faruk Abdullah, staff reporter of a local daily in Chattogram, was sued under the digital security act for allegedly using "abusive language" against a local lawmaker on social media.

Morshedur Rahman, a follower of Chittagong-16 lawmaker Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, filed the case on Saturday. 

Faruk Abdullah who works as a staff reporter of Dainik Purbodesh said, "A conspiratorial case has been filed against me for protesting against the burial of my uncle, Ali Ashraf, who is a freedom fighter without guard of honor.

He also criticised those who reportedly insulted the freedom fighters of the country and the liberation war as well.

Recently tensions erupted in Bashkhali upazila over the burial of Dr Ashraf Ali without giving him the honor. 

Morshedur Rahman, the plaintiff of the case, said, "Faruk Abdullah made fabricated and defamatory posts on social media against Banshkhali MP Mostafizur Rahman. 

"I have filed the case against him upon instructions from Mostafizur Rahman."

Rezaul Karim Majumder, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station confirmed the matter to The Business Standerd, adding that the matter is under investigation.

Meanwhile, Belal Uddin, Banshkhali upazila correspondent of Ekushey Television, was abducted from Puichhori Sarlia Bazar Bridge area of ​​the upazila on Sunday. 

Police rescued him around 10.00pm on Sunday, Rezaul Karim Majumder told The Business Standard.
