The Chattogram Custom House (CCH) has started destroying goods of 203 containers confiscated in the last 10 years at the Chattogram port.
Among the expired products include poultry feed, fruits, sanitary napkins and cosmetic products, said CCH Deputy Commissioner Majedul Hoque.
The process began on December 18. Up till Thursday, goods of nine containers have been buried. The programme will continue until all the date-expired goods are taken care of, added Majedul.
According to sources at the Chattogram port, the containers had 4,400 tonnes of goods worth Tk19.55 crore.
If goods at the port do not get released within 30 days, the authorities put the items on auction, according to the CCH. However, some goods stay there for years due to legal complications.
Goods that have expired or rotted are then destroyed.
