CCC election was good: EC senior secretary
He added that the exception to this is that two or three violent incidents occurred
The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) elections were good overall, except at two voting centres, said Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Mohammed Alamgir on Wednesday.
"We received voting updates through our control room and watched mass media reports. The election was good. Some violent incidents in an election are common in third world countries and the violent incidents were few in number. So, I must say the election was good except for two or three violent incidents," Alamgir said to the media, at EC Bhaban, in the evening soon after the election.
Voting in the CCC elections began in the morning at 8am and continued till 4pm.
Seven candidates were vying for the mayoral office, while 172 contested for councillor positions and 57 for reserved councillor's posts.
Around 19,38,706 voters will decide the mayor today by electronic voting machines (EVMs).
