CCC Election: Defeated BNP mayor candidate files case against CEC, Mayor

Dr Shahadat Hossain, defeated BNP-nominated mayor candidate for the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls on Wednesday filed a case against nine people including CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda for vote-rigging.

He filed the case in the court of Election Tribunal Judge Khairul Amin around 12 pm.

Dr Shahadat Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Standard and said, "I have filed the case against CEC and eight others involved in the vote-rigging."

Earlier, he had demanded the CCC poll cancellation and reelection.

The next date fixed for the case procedure is 21 March.

Awami League candidate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was elected as the mayor of Chittagong City Corporation after his landslide victory in CCC polls held on 27 January.

He defeated BNP candidate Dr Shahadat Hossain, by a margin of 316,759 votes.

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury got 369,248 votes for Awami League while BNP's  Dr Shahadat Hossain received 52,489 votes.
