Bus kills girl in capital

A ten-year-old girl died after being run over by a bus in the capital's Bijoy Smarani area on Friday afternoon. 

The victim is Farzana, daughter of Mizanur Rahman, principal of Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in Gazipur. 

Farzana was returning from Tongi sitting on the backseat of her father's motorbike after offering prayers at Biswa Ijtema, said Mahmud Khan, assistant commissioner of Tejgaon zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. 

Farzana along with his father fell off the motorbike after a bus of 'Dewan Paribahan' hit them from behind while the motorbike was turning left near the Bijoy Smarani area, the police official said.

The bus ran over the girl leaving her dead on the spot, Mahmud also said.

Police recovered the body of the victim and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The victim's father Mizanur Rahman also sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Police detained the bus driver Sohel Rana and seized the bus, Mahmud Khan said.

Filing of a case in this connection was underway.
