Buet students to announce next steps after meeting

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) students said this morning they would announce their next steps of the protest against the killing of fellow student Abrar Fahad after a meeting.

The meeting attended by the protesters started at 10am.

"We will hold a press conference at 5pm where we will declare our next steps," said Sanim, a student of 15th batch.

"There will be no protest until the press briefing is over," he added.

On October 12, students met the vice-chancellor and postponed their protest for two days because of the admissions test.

The Buet administration agreed to fulfil the demand of the protesting students. Students, however, said they would continue their agitation until their 10-point demand was met.

Abrar Fahad, 21, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and a second-year student of Buet, was beaten to death on October 7 night by some Chhatra League men over his alleged affiliation with Jamat-e-Islami's student wing Chhatra Shibir.

After the brutal murder of Abrar, students of Buet and the universities of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar and Jagannath staged protests demanding capital punishment of the killers.
