A British citizen was found dead in a hotel in the capital's Uttara area on Thursday.

Morshed Alam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Uttara Division, said Dugald Finlayson, 60, had been staying at the Merino Hotel in Uttara's sector 4 since 20 September this year.

"At around 9:30am, Dong HaoPeng knocked on the door of his friend Dugald Finlayson's hotel room. With no response from inside, he informed the hotel authorities. They opened the door with a duplicate key and found Finlayson unconscious in the washroom."

"The hotel authorities informed the Uttara East Police Station and the police sent Finlayson to Bangladesh Medical Hospital in Uttara for treatment," he added.

Upon arrival, the doctor in charge declared Finlayson dead and sent his body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The actual cause of death will be known after the post-mortem, police said, adding that Finlayson came to Bangladesh on a business visa.

Mamunur Rashid, sub inspector of Uttara East Police Station, said they also questioned his friends Pan Lian and Dong HaoPeng.
