Discussants at the event emphasised on the genuine scarcity of sincere and good quality literary translations in Bengali

The University Press Limited (UPL) on Saturday organised a book launching ceremony of "Ajob Deshe Alice" – Bengali translation of a dramatised version of Lewis Carroll's classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The event was hosted live on UPL's official Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The book's translator Professor Abdus Selim, its cover artist and art director Sabyasachi Hazra, co-publisher of the book Firoz Ahmed, famous actress Bonna Mirza, and celebrated actor Afzal Hossain, were present at the ceremony among others.

Mahrukh Mohiuddin, managing director of UPL, moderated the event.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Maisha Tabassum, a student of the University of Dhaka, shared her review of the book.

Discussants emphasised on the genuine scarcity of sincere and good quality literary translations in Bengali. They also elaborately discussed Lewis Carroll's nonsense literature's magnificent impact on the young mind.

The book's art director Sabyasachi Hazra shared how he was encouraged to use the original illustrations, acknowledging their timeless appeal to children's imagination.
