Bond misuse: Customs seize Tk2.5 crore illegal goods
These goods were imported through illegal bonds where the importer enjoyed zero percent tax facility
Dhaka Customs officials in separate drives have seized contraband items worth Tk2.5 crore obtained through misuse of bond facility in the capital.
A customs press release said the drives were carried out early on Friday.
Two teams of Customs Bond Comissionarate (CBC) Dhaka led by Deputy Commissioner Md Mehebub Haque seized a huge number of BOPP (Biaxially Oriented PolyPropylene) and CPP (Cast Polypropylene) films from Morshed Enterprise in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka.
These goods were imported through illegal bonds where the importer enjoyed zero percent tax facility even though he was supposed to pay tax for the import.
The Customs authority, however, sealed the factory as the factory owners failed to show any kind of legal supporting documents for the goods.
Another team lead by CBC Deputy Commissioner Fakhrul Amin Chowdhury conducted a drive in Hazaribagh area.
They seized five covered vans loaded with illegal poly-propylene films from the area.
