Bomb blast jolts Khulna Awami League office

A bomb blast has jolted a ward Awami League office in Khulna city, but there has been no reports of any injuries as yet.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at ruling party office located in the Shiromoni area of the city.

According to locals, local Awami League President Sheikh Abid Hossain and a few other leaders left the ruling party office at the area around 5:45pm to attend a meeting elsewhere. The bomb exploded shortly after the departure of Abid.

"After leaving the party office, I came to know that a bomb exploded inside the room, damaging the furniture inside," confirmed Abid Hossain.

Local leaders and activists of the ruling party and its associate organisations brought out a protest procession following the blast.

Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Molla Jahangir said: "A man left behind a bag inside the Awami League office at Shiromoni area. The bomb exploded around ten minutes after party leaders left the premises.

"There was no one inside the building during the incident, so no one was injured."

He added that law enforcers are yet to identify the type of bomb used in the attack. Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandaker Lutful Kabir has visited the scene of the incident.
