BNP spreading misleading information about lockdown: Quader
He urged BNP to stand with the people, instead of playing politics with Covid-19
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader says the BNP is playing evil politics with the Covid-19 vaccine, and now they are spreading misleading information about the lockdown.
"What did BNP do for the welfare of the people apart from criticising and spreading falsehoods during the pandemic?" he questioned, at a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence on Saturday.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, called upon BNP leaders to stand alongside the people, instead of playing politics with the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Now, opposing on every matter has become BNP's politics. Every day, BNP puts out falsehoods and spreads rumors against the government. But if we respond, they get angry," he said.
Saying that the government welcomes any constructive criticism, not rumors and propaganda, Quader urged BNP to give constructive suggestions to the government instead of blind criticism.
He said, where even developed nations are facing severe troubles in containing the Covid-19 surge, Bangladesh is making relentless efforts to restrain transmission of the virus, building a strong network from the top to the grassroots.
The government has been making an all-out effort to secure both lives as well as livelihoods, he said.
Turning down the BNP's demand for taking the opinion of all parties about Covid-19, Quader said coronavirus is not a political issue.
There is a national advisory committee on Covid-19 and the government is taking any and all decisions on the basis of recommendations and opinions of that committee and health experts, he said.
The minister said the opinion of health experts is more important than the opinion of all political parties in this regard.
There is no instance of forming an all-party committee for containing Covid-19 in the world, he said.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the construction project to upgrade the connecting road of the Karnaphuli tunnel (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel) and Anwara upazila to four lanes, joining the programme virtually from his official residence in Dhaka.
He said the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry is making all-out efforts to build an uninterrupted and safe highway network by building road infrastructure for the socioeconomic development of the people.
The Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) and the Chinese Economic Zone have been established at Anwara upazila in Chattogram, Quader said.
